Hebrews 13:20 Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,
The Eternal Covenant is the Covenant of Redemption that each member of the Trinity made with one another. Each member of the Trinity entered the agreement as equals fully understanding each role that they would have to play in order for redemption to take place. I will list the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit’s agreement in the Covenant of Redemption.
The Father agreed to give Jesus a people to redeem for Himself
John 17:6 I have manifested Your name to men whom You have given Me out of the world They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
The Father agreed to send Jesus to be the representative of man
Romans 5:18,19 Therefore, as though one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
The Father agreed to create a body for the Son to live in
Colossians 2:9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily
The Father agreed to accept Jesus as the representative of man
Hebrews 9:24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.
The Father agreed to give Jesus all authority on heaven and on earth
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
The Father agreed to give Jesus the authority to pour out His spirit onto the redeemed empowering them
Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which’, He said, ‘you have heard from Me.’
