Key Text: Matthew 24:26-28
Ø The Quickness of His Coming
Jesus will come in a moment or twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:51-58).
§ “Moment” is Atomos, which is “an atomic second, a moment that cannot be split.” § “Twinkling” means “in an instant.”
We will be caught up to be with Jesus (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18).
§ “Caught up” means “to claim or take away by force, to carry off or pull up.”
Ø His Coming is at an Appointed Time
No one knows when Jesus will return (Mark 13:32-33).
Jesus will come back as He left the earth (Acts 1:9-11).
God is not slow concerning His promises (2 Peter 3:1-10).
§ “Patient” means “long suffering.”
Ø Be Ready for His Coming
• Jesus is coming like a thief in the night (Luke 12:40; I Thessalonians 5:2; Revelation 16:15).
Ø How to Live Ready
Live a life of holiness and peace (2 Peter 3:11-15).
§ “Holy conduct” means “set apart to the Lord.”
§ “Godliness” means “walking in God’s light.”
§ “Looking for” means “expecting.”
§ “Hastening” means “await eagerly and with great desire.”
Be a vessel of mercy (Romans 9:22-24).
§ The Greek word for “longsuffering” is the same word used for delayed judgement. § God wishes for none to perish (2 Peter 3:9).
Our motivation and determination changes when we consider eternity
